The International Council of
Air Shows Foundation created the Air Show Hall of Fame in 1995 to
honor those who have made a significant contribution to the air show
industry. Each year, internationally acclaimed aviation artist and
ICAS member Teresa Stokes works with the Foundation to create
portraits of our inductees, drawn in a familiar pose or setting,
from which a bronze plaque is etched. Until now, the Hall of Fame
was resident at the ICAS headquarters in Leesburg, Virginia.
Early in 2005,
the Foundation made plans to celebrate the 10th
anniversary of the Air Show Hall of Fame. ICAS Foundation
supporters Willie Turner and Jan Collmer stepped up to the plate
with offers to host the Hall of Fame plaques at their museums. The
Foundation is proud to announce that the Air Show Hall of Fame
plaques are on public display at the Hiller Aviation Museum in San
Carlos, CA and the Frontiers of Flight Museum in Dallas, TX.
Each museum
receives thousands of visitors each year, and will provide a venue
for fans of air shows and aviation to learn about the heroes and
legends that helped to make the air show industry what it is today.
The Foundation is grateful for the support of these two aviation
institutions.
